Android Phones: Life-Savers in Venezuela’s Deadly Quakes!

How Google’s Earthquake Alerts Protected Millions — And How to Turn It On in Quake-Prone Countries When two massive earthquakes (7.2 and 7.5) struck Venezuela recently, the country had no national early warning system. But millions of Android phones lit up with loud alerts seconds to minutes before the shaking hit — giving people precious time to drop, cover, and hold on. Google’s clever system turns the accelerometers in over 2 billion Android phones into a giant crowdsourced seismic network. It detects the first waves, confirms the quake, and blasts notifications to users in the affected area. In Venezuela, it reached 11.4 million people — proving technology can save lives even where governments can’t. How to activate it (works in nearly 100 countries):    Open Settings on your Android phone.   Tap Safety & Emergency (or search for “Earthquake alerts”).   Select Earthquake Alerts and toggle it ON.   Keep Location services ena...

Valve’s Steam Machine (2026) vs PS5 Pro: The Better Buy Might Surprise You.

The console war just got more interesting. Following the success of the Steam Deck, Valve has officially entered the living room with the new Steam Machine (2026) — a compact hybrid console-PC built to take on Sony’s PS5 Pro head-on. At first glance, the PS5 Pro seems like the clear winner for most gamers: Lower price Superior native 4K visuals Strong first-party exclusives A dead-simple plug-and-play experience But dig a little deeper, and Valve’s machine starts to look like the smarter long-term choice for many people — especially if you value flexibility and ownership over pure out-of-the-box console polish. Fortnite PS4 Slim Bundle to Launch on July 16, Includes Exclusive Royale Bomber Skin

Epic Games' battle royale sensation Fortnite is getting a PS4 Slim bundle on July 16. For the price of a standard 500GB PS4 Slim (Rs. 30,990 in India and $300 in the US), you'll also get a copy of Fortnite which includes both Fortnite Save the World and Fortnite Battle Royale in addition to a new exclusive skin called Royale Bomber as well as 500 V-bucks, Fortnite's in-game currency. This was spotted on the PlayStation Italy Facebook page by gaming site Dexterto ( via ResetEra). The timing of this move is amusing considering that Sony is facing considerable flak for its move to disallow crossplay. A decision that's been in place for the past few years but has recently gained traction after Fortnite hit the Nintendo Switch with many Fortnite PS4 players angry that their progress can't carry over to that console. Right now, there's no confirmation if India would getting the Fortnite PS4 Slim bundle. Usually, Sony India has been exceptionally pr...

HIGHLIGHTS Just Cause 4 is out on December 4 The game has an improved engine Enemy AI and vehicles have been overhauled too Just Cause 4 is out on December 4 and at E3 2018 Square Enix showed off more of the open-world action game. Running on the Open World Apex engine, the game takes place in the fictional South American city of Solis which its developers claim is a "deeply advanced systemic world" that sports a wealth of variety. However, it's under a spell of oppression and fear thanks to the Black Hand, a militia run by Gabriella, the game's antagonist. It appears that Square Enix is pulling out all the stops for Just Cause 4, promising improved enemy AI with various enemy classes, including one that can cloak itself.  Furthermore, there's extreme weather such as tornadoes that open up a larger number of gameplay options and ways to level an area. Vehicles have been overhauled as well as the series' signature grappling hook allowin...

Sony PlayStation at E3 2018 Live Stream: How to Watch and What to Expect

PlayStation at E3 2018 should, like Sony’s past showings, focus on the games and games alone. Unless of course, Microsoft's showing has resulted in a last minute pivot that could include the PS5. Last year saw God of War and the year before that saw Days Gone and PS VR games aplenty while the previous year had the nostalgic trio of Shenmue 3, The Last Guardian, and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Unlike other companies such as Bethesda, EA, Microsoft, and Ubisoft, Sony’s E3 2018 plans have been relatively leak-proof, which should give you all the more reason to bother. While it's unlikely that we'll see a PS4 price cut, we should see a host of games that will be out soon and others that will release in the years to come. Sony PlayStation E3 2018 live stream time and date The Sony PlayStation E3 2018 conference begins at 6pm PDT on June 12 (6:30am IST on June 13). How to watch the Sony PlayStatio...

New video game streaming service to rival Twitch

Image copyright FACEBOOK Facebook has launched its own video game streaming hub. Facebook.gg, which launched on Thursday, will compete directly with popular platforms like Twitch and Mixer. It's part of the social media site's continued efforts to become a destination for video content. The new service suggests streams based on who individual users follow, and highlights content chosen by Facebook. At the time of writing 3,400 play Player Unknown: Battlegrounds (PubG ) on Facebook.gg, while 2,900 people are streaming Fortnite. In contrast, according to metrics from Twitch analytics site  SullyGnome , Fortnite consistently dominates on Twitch as the most streamed game. Image caption This is where you can find the games people are streaming It points to a slightly different audience for Facebook.gg and the well established Twitch. Younger gamers are more likely to play Fortnite than PubG, so the fact PubG currently dominates on Facebook.gg is an early indicato...

Sea of Thieves' first expansion will surface on May 29

The Hungering Deep, the first of several free major Sea of Thieves expansions, will surface on May 29, Rare has announced. The trailer above features a one-eye pirate telling campfire stories about terrifying deep sea monsters, which is surely a hint of what's to come. We know very little about what the update will add other than a "new AI threat", but the video teases a shark-like creature with huge jaws that swallows ships whole. The pirate also tells us that ancient seafarers were able to "summon such creatures", and the video depicts sailors playing instruments to do just that. Make of that what you will. The game's Twitter account also changed its header photo to the following image (h/t to Eurogamer for the spot). Rare previously promised that the update would add a number of new mechanics as well as new rewards for players. It's the first of many major updates on the horizon, with two more incoming over the summer and three oth...

The Best VR (Virtual Reality) Headset

Virtual Reality Is Here Virtual Reality is a fascinating way to travel using nothing more than the power of technology. With a headset and motion tracking, VR lets you look around a virtual space as if you're actually there. It's also been a promising technology for decades that's never truly caught on. That's changing with the current wave of VR products. Oculus has the popular Rift, HTC and Valve have the Steam-friendly Vive, Sony launched the excellent PlayStation VR , Samsung recently added a separate controller to its Gear VR , and Google's Daydream is steadily growing from the remains of Google Cardboard . Meanwhile, Microsoft's Windows 10 mixed reality platform and a variety of hardware manufacturers working on it are waiting in the wings. There are a lot of promising headsets across a lot of different price and power spectrums. The Big Question: Mobile or Tethered? Modern VR headsets fit under one of two categories: Mobile or teth...
