The New Samsung Galaxy S22 series details

The new Samsung Galaxy comes in 3 models. Galaxy S22, S22 plus , & S22 ultra

Alll three models have features and aspects that could tempt you to buy it over the other two.

The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus are large and small variants of the same basic design, taking some cues from last year's Galaxy S21 but shrinking the size a little and upgrading parts of the display, rear camera array and internals. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a whole new design that not only sets it apart visually from its siblings, but allows it to fit in both quad rear cameras and an integrated S Pen.

Samsung Galaxy S22 price and release date

We're delighted to see that Samsung's kept the starting prices for the S22 the same as those for the S21 series. Those are $799 for the Galaxy S22, $999 for the Galaxy S22 Plus and $1,199 for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The phone is up for pre- order, retail release coming on February 25. All the carriers will be offering deals on the phone, but Samsung itself is offering free upgrades to the next highest storage capacity version of your chosen phone if you buy a 128GB or 256GB version. That's in combination with store credit, and discount on the Galaxy Tab S8, the amount depending on the model you buy.

Samsung Galaxy S22 design

The basic look of the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus is very similar to last year's Galaxy S21. These are two handsets with flat displays, punch-hole cameras in the center of the screen, and a new contoured camera block containing the three rear sensors on the back.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

For unlocking purposes, there are ultrasonic fingerprint sensors under the display of all three models. All the S22s also come with IP68 water/dust resistance, keeping the phone's inner components safe from potential intrusion. The screens should be plenty tought enough too thanks to the use of Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, the toughest Corning-made glass you can currently find on a phone.

You have a choice of four colors for the S22 and S22 Plus: Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Pink Gold. The S22 Ultra is also available in Phantom Black, Phantom White or Green, but also Burgundy.

The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus use two different sizes of what's effectively the same screen. Both have an FHD resolution, a 120Hz maximum refresh rate and 10Hz minimum, plus up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. However the Galaxy S22's display is a fairly small 6.1 inches while the Galaxy S22 Plus measure 6.6 inches.

Samsung Galaxy S22 cameras

Whether you're looking at the S22 or S22 Plus, you'll find the same selection of cameras. On the back, that consists of a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera and 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Meanwhile on the front, there's a single 10MP main camera.

The main camera features a 108MP sensor, and there are now two 10MP telephoto cameras; one with 3x optical zoom and the other with 10x optical zoom. The selfie camera is also higher resolution at 40MP.

Samsung's got some new treats on the software side too. "Nightography" features are a big part of this, which help the S22 cameras capture more light and color detail from shots taken in low light. There's also a new video Auto Framing mode that allows the phone to keep track of up to ten people in shot at once.

If you want to go the extra mile with your photos, then you can use Samsung's new Expert RAW app that lets you capture images in RAW format for more precise editing after taking the shot.

Samsung Galaxy S22 specs

Officially, Samsung says the S22 series runs on a 4nm processor. Why so vague? That's because the chip you get differs depending on where you live.

U.S. buyers will get the S22 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, whereas U..K. readers or anyone in else outside the U.S. will have their S22s equipped with the Exynos 2200. Although Snapdragon chips tend to score slightly better on computing benchmarks than Samsung's Exynos ones, the 2200 is particularly interesting this year as it's introduced AMD RDNA-powered GPU. This could make gaming on the S22 sold in global markets a higher quality experience than the one American users have.

Whichever chip you get, there will be 8GB RAM, and either 128GB or 256GB of storage with the S22 and S22 Plus. In the S22 Ultra, you can have either 8GB or 12GB RAM, and 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage capacity.

Samsung Galaxy S22 battery and charging

In keeping with their smaller sizes, the battery capacities of the S22 and S22 Plus have shrunk a little since last year too. The S22 offers a 3,700 mAh battery, and the S22 Plus a 4,500 mAh one. There's no change in the capacity of the S22 Ultra, which uses a 5,000 mAh cell.

Charging speeds on the basic S22 have remained the same as before: 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The S22 Plus and S22 Ultra have gained 45W wired charging support though, allowing a faster refueling when required. The only issue is none of these phones come with chargers in the box. You'll need to buy or already own a compatible charger to ensure you've got the best possible speeds, or charge with any available USB-C plug and accept you won't reach those promised speeds.

Samsung Galaxy S22: software

The S22 series ships with Android 12, in the form of Samsung's One UI 4 interface. While there are a few updates made to the basic functionality, just as the introduction of Material You-based design customization, the biggest deal is that Samsung is now promising 4 years of software support for the S22 series. This will let you keep using the phone with all the latest Android features for longer.

Supercomputer Can Calculate in 1 Second What Would Take You 6 Billion Years

It's shiny, fast and ultrapowerful. But it's not the latest Alpha Romeo. A physics laboratory in Tennessee just unveiled Summit, likely to be named the world's speediest and smartest supercomputer. Perhaps most exciting for the U.S.? It's faster than China's. Hot 100 smartphones The supercomputer — which fills a server room the size of two tennis courts — can spit out answers to 200 quadrillion (or 200 with 15 zeros) calculations per second, or 200 petaflops, according to Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where the supercomputer resides. "If every person on Earth completed one calculation per second, it would take the world population 305 days to do what Summit can do in 1 second," according to an ORNL statement. Put another way, if one person were to run the calculations, hypothetically, it would take 2.3 trillion days, or 6.35 billion years.
